Welcome to Newcastle Orienteering Club

Orienteering is a competitive or non-competitive recreational activity in which participants use a detailed map (and usually a compass) to navigate between checkpoints (known as “controls”) along an unfamiliar course. If you like a mental and physical challenge and exploring the outdoors, orienteering is the sport for you!

And here is a word form event1 setter Greg Bacon

It’s time to get the bike out of the back of the garage and give it a service! The first event in this summer series is on the 31 Oct. The event will start at the Glendale TAFE at the end of the access road into the TAFE.

We will be using the BRUSH CK map at 1:10000 scale with a few new tracks added to the map. The course will run on a mixture of single bike tracks and wider 4 x 4 tracks. There will be something for all riders with 50% of the course being along the flat area behind the TAFE and along some of the ridge lines. For those that like some adventure there are some harder sections but they are rideable in both directions. Sections that are severely rutted have been marked on the map to allow competitors to take an easier route. Navigation and tackling the course in the right direction will play a big part in the event. The organisers will even be going to the trouble of cleaning up the single tracks and removing some of the debris after the recent strong winds.

Remember to check out the rules for the event on the club website!
