Welcome to Newcastle Orienteering Club

Orienteering is a competitive or non-competitive recreational activity in which participants use a detailed map (and usually a compass) to navigate between checkpoints (known as “controls”) along an unfamiliar course. If you like a mental and physical challenge and exploring the outdoors, orienteering is the sport for you!

Event: Summer Street Series 0809 - Event 5
Location: Kotara
Host: Jim Lee
Entries: 103 (comprised of 117 registered names + uncountable members of family entries)
Weather: Fine with a cool easterly breeze

Event 5 in the summer street series saw us commence at Novocastrian Park, New Lambton. This was in the central northeastern part of the map, encircled by quite a few controls. The conundrum posed by course setter Jim Lee was when to get these and how far out to go into the long narrow southwest.

Age triumphed over youth this week with 6 of the top ten being at least over the age of 40 (some considerably so). Stu Adams collected top points and Carolyn Matthews added her name to the now growing list of women’s winners (well on time if not points).

We cracked the 100 entries mark today with even more newbie’s turning up.
Thanks to Jim and Julie and the “marking” helpers.
