Welcome to Newcastle Orienteering Club

Orienteering is a competitive or non-competitive recreational activity in which participants use a detailed map (and usually a compass) to navigate between checkpoints (known as “controls”) along an unfamiliar course. If you like a mental and physical challenge and exploring the outdoors, orienteering is the sport for you!

The weather held off raining for the last bush event of the year, the traditional Drawer for Partners relay. 24 teams were drawn from the 5 short, 24 medium, and 24 long entries. Once the short leg runners were led off to their start it was time to wait and see who would appear first at the last control. With the long and medium leg runners mixed between leg 2 and 3 it was a case of wait and see who would be back first. The eventual winners were team 4 made up of Scott Charlton (S), Glen Charlton (L), and Robert Preston (M) in a time of 58.52 minutes.

Thanks to Denis Lyons for all the preparation work and to Julia Preston and Dianne Charlton for manning the tables. Thanks also to those who helped pack up after the event.

The event was followed by the end of year presentation of club and state awards for not only competing but also to setters.
