Welcome to Newcastle Orienteering Club

Orienteering is a competitive or non-competitive recreational activity in which participants use a detailed map (and usually a compass) to navigate between checkpoints (known as “controls”) along an unfamiliar course. If you like a mental and physical challenge and exploring the outdoors, orienteering is the sport for you!

Cameron Park - going....going......

Having recently visited the area just prior to this event, I was amazed at how far into the bush the subdivision has spread since we were there last. We had better enjoy this area before it becomes a treeless suburb of McMansions (yes I know we own one of these, but we did build on an established building block in an inner suburb). I had better not say to much more as we are at least fortunate that the developers allow us the use of the area prior to it's eventual development and we are at least thankful for that.

Away from those issues and we had a pretty reasonable day with both weather and number of entries. Josh Blatchford confirmed his star of the future status by topping the "Long Red" field with Steven Todkill just a few seconds behind and Glenn Burgess rounding out the top 3 a few minutes further back.

Craig Kentish managed to win our personal "hare & tortoise" challenge after I handicapped myself by circling the wrong feature for control no12. It would have been a close thing if not for this.

Thanks to Joy & Denis for a great event and also to Peter Charlton, Peter Newton & Margaret Peel for assisting with control collection.

See you all at Killingworth.
