Welcome to Newcastle Orienteering Club

Orienteering is a competitive or non-competitive recreational activity in which participants use a detailed map, and usually a compass, to navigate between checkpoints on an unfamiliar course in bush terrain, parkland or urban areas.

If you like a physical and mental challenge while exploring the outdoors, orienteering is the sport for you!

NOY2 - Vincent holds off strong challenge.

Results

Perfect orienteering weather saw a large field contest the 7 courses offered by setter Russell Blatchford. Most courses feature a large number of controls with the Long Red 7.3 km having the most at 22. Obviously they offered little challenge to Rob Vincent (49:32) who continued the form he displayed in blitzing the M45A field at the Easter 3-Days, recently contested in South Australia. His winning margin today was very much tighter than that event, just eclipsing long time sparring partner Jock Davis (49:46) from Sydney's Bigfoot club by a narrow 14 seconds. The young brigade of Josh Roberts and Josh Blatchford were a few minutes behind to fill 3rd and 4th places respectively. Mel Simpson (80:14) was the only female to contest the long course with most of her likely competition prefering the friendlier 5.4 km distance of the Medium Red.
