Orienteering Australia has published its annual National Non-elite Rankings for 2023 (elites have a separate ranking system based on National League results), with six Newcastle club members ranked in the top three in their age class. Baxter Peel (M12) and Jenny Enderby (W55) are ranked first nationally for 2023. Jim Lee is second in M70 and Rebecca Craig (W16), Martina Craig (W50) and Steven Todkill (M45) are all ranked third.
Ranking points are awarded for each A class championship event completed that had at least 4 starters, with 100 points awarded for first place and lesser points for other competitors. The 2023 rankings were determined by an orienteer's best three results from the races in the Easter 3-Days Championships, Australian Championships and Oceania Championships.
