Newcastle tops at NSW Middle & Long Champs
The weekend of 9 & 10 September saw over 300 orienteers compete in the NSW Middle & Long Distance Championships on a new map north of Rylstone. The area, mapped by Newcastle’s Rob Vincent, featured complex sandstone rock pagodas providing both technical orienteering and a physical challenge. Newcastle figured strongly in the results with twenty eight club members making the podium on one or both days, including thirteen firsts in the A classes.
Newcastle’s state champions in Saturday’s Middle Distance A classes were Samantha Howe (W40A), Steven Todkill (M40A), Martina Craig (W50A), Jennifer Enderby (W55A), Bjorn Mella (M60A) and Jim Lee (M75A). Topping the A classes in Sunday’s Long Distance champs were Hayley Jenkins (W10A), Carl O'Connor (M10A), Stephen Craig (M35A), Samantha Howe (W40A), Jennifer Enderby (W55A), Glenn Burgess (M60A) and Jim Lee (M75A).
