Welcome to Newcastle Orienteering Club

Orienteering is a competitive or non-competitive recreational activity in which participants use a detailed map, and   usually a compass, to navigate between checkpoints (known as “controls”) along an unfamiliar course.                     If you like a mental and physical challenge and exploring the outdoors, orienteering is the sport for you!

(Unofficial) Standings After the First Three Qualifiers

Location:  Jesmond Park, Jesmond

Start times:  Starts between 5pm - 6:30pm (Course Closure at 7:10pm). The early closure is to enable the setter to collect controls before it gets dark.  Finish after 7:10pm and you risk being disqualified for failing to finish the course in the allowed time. So please choose your start time so that you can complete your chosen course by 7:10pm.

Setter:  Malcolm Roberts with vetter Caroline Jenkins

Course:  Long (~5km) and Short (~2.5km). These are length via logical route choice around out of bounds areas. Competitors should choose a course that matches their ability and allows them to finish by course closure time.

Directions:  The assembly area is adjacent to the carpark off Robinson Ave.

Facilities:  There are toilets in Jesmond Park but ... these toilets are in the competition area. So, please use these only as a desperate last resort.

Note - Mozzies: Remember to bring your mossie repellent. You'll regret it if you don't.

Note - SI: this is a Sport Ident (SI) event,  there is an SI unit attached to each control, so you will need to bring your SI stick or P-card. There are less than 20 controls on both courses, so people that only own a P-card will be able to use that, they will not need to hire or purchase an SI stick for this event.
