Welcome to Newcastle Orienteering Club

Orienteering is a competitive or non-competitive recreational activity in which participants use a detailed map (and usually a compass) to navigate between checkpoints (known as “controls”) along an unfamiliar course. If you like a mental and physical challenge and exploring the outdoors, orienteering is the sport for you!

    Run or walk, compete against yourself or others, or a fun family day out. Classic "forest" orienteering for all in the great outdoors. (Mar-Sept)
   Run, walk or push a pram to a 45 minute time limit. How many points can you get? (Oct-Feb)
    A great introduction to orienteering with fun courses in suburban parks & reserves. Also includes a night event. (Feb-Mar)
    Navigate around bush tracks and trails on your mountain bike. The     BOSS series offers 75 minute score & line+score events. (Oct-Mar)

Minor Event - Mining Mystery

Venue: Travel to Kurri Kurri. Access via Hunter Economic Zone (HEZ) Industrial Business Estate to the south west of Pelaw-Main off Kurri-Kurri Mulbring Road. Within HEZ at roundabout turn right (east) and drive to end of tarmac road (road partially blocked with concrete barrier - drive in centre of road).

WARNING : HEZ prevalent area for "hoons" doing burnouts etc.

60 kmph zone with frequent police presence.

Terrain: Classic Newcastle spur-gully terrain, gently undulating, intricate track network, patches of mining detail, typical Newcastle vegetation variability and good visibility. Full body cover recommended

Line Courses: Very Easy, Easy (2x), Moderate (2x), Hard (3x)

Score Courses: Medium (up to 5.6 km for 27 controls), Long (up to 8.3 km for 27 controls)

 

Entries: Enter on the day, at time to suit you, 9:30 am – 11:30 am. Courses close at 1:00pm.

Orienteers can choose either traditional Line Courses or Score Course.

Score Courses have 50% to 70% more controls.
