The 2009 World Masters Orienteering Championships ‘unofficially’ get under way on Friday the 9th of October. The NSW Junior Training Squad are combining with the Uringa club in Sydney to organise what will be another excellent orienteering opportunity.

Newcastle based junior squad members will play a prominent role in the staging of this event. Josh Blatchford is the course setter, and a number of other juniors from our club will act as officials, either control watching in areas of higher general public activity on the map, or officiating at the start / finish.

Venue: Access to the area involves a walk along the foreshore from the Leichhardt Rowing Club. Parking is along Glover Street off Balmain Road, OR, in the car park of the Leichhardt Park Aquatic Centre adjacent to Leichhardt Oval – home of Wests Tigers. Good public transport links available as an alternative to get to the event – access to event from the Rowing Club also.
Map: ‘Callan Park’ 1: 4000 / 2 metre contour interval – 2009 map version produced to ISSOM 2007 standards by Dave Lotty
Courses: Typical sprint line courses – four distance options: 3.3 km, 2.9 km, 2.4 km, 1.9 km
Entries: Enter on the day, at a time to suit you, 12:30 – 3:00 pm, ($20)
Organisation: Contact Blatchford family 4934 1784
Special note: SI timing will be used – SI sticks available for hire ($5)

The Newcastle club, under the guidance of Malcolm Roberts, has an exciting summer of park and street orienteering lined up. Come down to ‘Callan Park’ and get in some early preparation. The Newcastle based members of the NSW Junior Squad will certainly appreciate your support.

A fantastic area for orienteering, superb courses, magnificent Sydney Harbour views – a trip to the ‘big smoke’ and a run on the ‘Callan Park’ map will NOT disappoint.
