Welcome to Newcastle Orienteering Club

Orienteering is a competitive or non-competitive recreational activity in which participants use a detailed map (and usually a compass) to navigate between checkpoints (known as “controls”) along an unfamiliar course. If you like a mental and physical challenge and exploring the outdoors, orienteering is the sport for you!

BOSS Event 4 - Charmhaven

Course Setter: Graham Fowler
Start Times: 8:00am – 9:00am

Map: NEW MAP - Charmhaven  1:7,500   10m contours  (2015)

Terrain:   This is a small area of relatively flat bushland with a complex network of tracks.
Directions: Western side of Pacific Highway about 600m south of the Charmhaven shops.

CAUTION: The Highway is very busy at times. For safety - if approaching from the north, proceed past the area to the round-about 300m further south and return on western side of the Highway.

Course Notes: Because of the small area, this event will consist of two parts – a line course of 10 controls followed by the score course. The usual 75 minute time limit for BOSS events will apply.

Important: This event uses Sportident, which will be available to hire on the day. You also need a mountain bike.
