Welcome to Newcastle Orienteering Club

Orienteering is a competitive or non-competitive recreational activity in which participants use a detailed map (and usually a compass) to navigate between checkpoints (known as “controls”) along an unfamiliar course. If you like a mental and physical challenge and exploring the outdoors, orienteering is the sport for you!

From series coordinator Andrew Haigh

Series three of the Mountain Bike Orienteering Summer Series kicked off to perfect weather with a new MTBO map produced by Denis Lyons.
Numbers where down slightly due to clashes with several other events in the area. Most of the regulars did however turn out, despite several of them not preregistering, The sting of a $10 pay on the day fee might encourage pre entry next month! The course was cleared with 7 minutes to spare by Damian Welbourne, one minute ahead of Malcolm Roberts. Mary Fien made the trip north to take out the womens and pushed Nicole and Carolyn in to second and third.
The start desk was skillfully run by Cheryl Todkill, which was much appreciated, as it gave the organisers a bit more time to socialise.
Thanks to Denis Lyons who as always does just about everything. Sam Howe who looked after the finish area.
Thanks also to prompt flag collecting by Damian, Alex, Rudi, Denis and Rob Vincent, we could all leave the area before the rain set in.

The next event is also on a new map at Lone Pine Road (Just north of Walaroo) on 27th November. Don't miss it - please remember to pre enter.
