Welcome to Newcastle Orienteering Club

Orienteering is a competitive or non-competitive recreational activity in which participants use a detailed map (and usually a compass) to navigate between checkpoints (known as “controls”) along an unfamiliar course. If you like a mental and physical challenge and exploring the outdoors, orienteering is the sport for you!

BOSS Event 5

Results | Routegadget

NOTE: BOSS 5 on 2nd March will be held in an urban environment. Think Park O for bikes. Please be aware that this is NOT a bush event and you are likely to encounter motor vehicles on certain parts of the course. Heads Up!

Lost Property: Found at BOSS 4 was a Bike Tool was found that may have been dropped - describe it if you think its yours.

Course Setter: Michael Roylance
Start Times: 8:00am – 9:00am
Directions: Castle Hill Showground - Enter Castle Hill Showground from the new road adjacent the original council chambers on Showground Road. Note that there is massive change in this area. The council chambers are now defunct and will be demolished to make way for the new Castle Hill rail station. Do not enter via Doran Drive which is now also defunct. Use the new temporary access road which is unnamed. Proceed to the start/finish which is at the north western (lower) end of the site.

Terrain: A mixture of urban street, fire trail, single track and gnarly sections. In a single word - varied.

Course Notes: The usual 75 minute time limit for BOSS events will apply. However this event will consist of two parts.
Part A This will be a line event with controls each worth 2 points. No other controls are to be collected during this course. On completion of Part A turn your map over for Part B and complete your score course.
Part B. This is a score course where controls will be worth either 1 or 3 points. Remember you have only 75 minutes to complete both parts the event..

Map: Fred Catterson and Castle Hill North

Important: This event uses Sportident, which will be available to hire on the day.
