From Andrew Haigh (series co-ordinator)
Dennis Lyons predictably set a great course for the final event of the inaugural series.
A new map with a good track system and no real hills made a great event. The wet weather of the week before, was all but forgotton except for a few muddy spots.
Newcomer Matthew Parson won the mens division on the day whilst Nicole Haigh won her first of the season.
The overall BOSS Champion of the Season could only be declared after a few minutes with the calculator. But Eventually it was clear that Malcolm Roberts had taken out first spot by a narrow margin over runner up Steve Todkill and in third place Damian Welboune. Rather than performing a lap of honour in front of the cheering crowds, Malcolm appeared somewhat embarassed with his victory. It is not him who should be embarrased but the rest of us for letting somebody on the wrong side of 50 beat us all.
The womens Champion of the Season caused less drama with the top two competitors not attending. So congratulations go to Mary Fien, closely followed by Mel Simpson in second and Nicole Haigh in third.
My unlikley assault on the Championship was shattered 2 minutes in to the event with a flat tyre. I returned to the start hoping for a quick fix, but as I pulled my spare tube from the car it snagged on a sharp part of my camping chair and ripped open!. After a slow repair job I decided to restart the clock and do the course non competitively.
131 people attended 1 or more BOSS events, 21 people attended all of them. Very impressive for our first season. I hope everybody enjoyed the series, any comments good or bad please let me know. We are already working on the dates for next season, starting in late October 2010.
