Clean sweep at Stockton.
Steven Todkill impressed in the latest street event contested at Stockton yesterday. While course setter Russell Rigby felt that a clean sweep of all controls was a possibility for some of the elite competitors, he never imagined that Steven would do so with nearly two and a half minutes left of the allocated time. While the 100% gives him a good series total, it is more likely to be the points he has denied others that will prove to be most decisive in the series overall, as the New Year will see him heading overseas for an extended period.
Kim van Netten made it three from three and while it’s no surprise to see her out in front, I’m sure she never expected to have such a strong lead so early in the series.
The combination of a narrow map and a start location on the northern extreme made for an “out and back” style course with competitors having to judge just how far south they could venture while still making it back without penalty. It was also tough working out what to get going out and what to leave for the return trip. Nice setting Russell!
Once again we had a terrific turnout and once again there were quite a few new competitors. Officially we had 99 starters blocks but with some of these being team entries we went well over the ton. Looks like we’ll soon need a bigger box for the blocks.
