Welcome to Newcastle Orienteering Club

Orienteering is a competitive or non-competitive recreational activity in which participants use a detailed map (and usually a compass) to navigate between checkpoints (known as “controls”) along an unfamiliar course. If you like a mental and physical challenge and exploring the outdoors, orienteering is the sport for you!

Event: Summer Street Series 11

Location: Metford
Entries: 70
Weather: Hot-warm with approaching late storm.

After 11 rounds of the summer street series we only have 10 competitors left standing that have attended all events so far. I know one of these won't complete every event as they are heading OS for a short holiday. How many will? Is there to be chocolate awards again?

Thanks to Karen Blatchford for a challenging course (and Russell and Nicola) although she may not have done herself any favours due to her attempts at humour for clue 3B. This "humour" was at the expense of a high standing, well respected member of the club comittee. She should remember who has control of this website and the power that this conveys.

On a (another) personal note I'm rather put out by the number of people I don't even know, turning up and beating me. Where did they come from and how could they beat me so soon. Usually it takes newbies half a season to learn the ropes thus allowing them to finally take advantage of my snails pace. Who are Natalie McCall and William Pullin anyway? Have they no respect either. They are immediately bannished to the same bad books that Karen B has suddenly (well maybe not so suddenly) found herself in!

On the results front......
Nicole Haigh took advantage of Karen's absence with the other contender Kim v Netten having a poor showing by her standards. Josh Blatchford won again but only on time as Malcolm Roberts managed to match him on points. Jeremey Welbourne bounced back with a well placed third after a disaster last week caused by a sudden need to find the nearest convieniences and abandon his course.

Me...I'm struggling to stay in the top twenty overall and not drop too far behind the likes of Kentish, Linich, Kitchener and other blokes I should be beating (thats not to mention all the women flogging me as well).

If anyone would like to contribute to this site by writing a report like this (well hopefully much better) for the next few weeks then let me know.

Geoff Peel.
