Welcome to Newcastle Orienteering Club

Orienteering is a competitive or non-competitive recreational activity in which participants use a detailed map (and usually a compass) to navigate between checkpoints (known as “controls”) along an unfamiliar course. If you like a mental and physical challenge and exploring the outdoors, orienteering is the sport for you!

Setter's Report:

I am happy that it is all over as there were times when you doubt yourself over the clues you have picked out (and then something happens and the clue changes and you have to find another one). The weather looked ominous on the day but as it turned out the weather was quite nice for running. I had several complaints about 2 of the clues and I apologise for this but most people dealt with it quite well by ticking both answers. I think overall most comments were positive.
I would like to thank Sam, David, Linda and Ken for helping at the finish (and setup) and other people who just did things without being asked. The ladies (and gent) on registration were wonderful as usual. Thanks to Peter for coming early with the tent even though we didn't use it.

Important Note: Newcastle Orienteering recommends that all competitors wear bright clothing or reflective gear throughout the season to enable drivers to see you especially if you are running near dusk. We also wish to remind competitors that listening to an ipod (or similar) while on course can be a distraction that may cause you to not hear an emergency warning or similar and as such are not allowed during these events for your safety.
