Welcome to Newcastle Orienteering Club

Orienteering is a competitive or non-competitive recreational activity in which participants use a detailed map (and usually a compass) to navigate between checkpoints (known as “controls”) along an unfamiliar course. If you like a mental and physical challenge and exploring the outdoors, orienteering is the sport for you!

From the course planner:

The majority of the 130+ competitors were treated to a sunny and fine event in mostly open forest with intricate rock detail, and the occasional leech. Expecting a few extra entries, Geoff Todkill had printed some additional maps for the shorter courses. However, we ran out of Long Hard maps, so thanks to one or two of you who coped with my hand-drawn courses done at short notice. By 11.30am, the showers had set in so later competitors without a plastic map bag had the challenge of keeping their map dry enough to finish their course. Thanks to the team of on-the-day helpers who ensured a successful event.
