Welcome to Newcastle Orienteering Club

Orienteering is a competitive or non-competitive recreational activity in which participants use a detailed map (and usually a compass) to navigate between checkpoints (known as “controls”) along an unfamiliar course. If you like a mental and physical challenge and exploring the outdoors, orienteering is the sport for you!

NOY 1 Wallaroo

Venue: We will be using Area 1: Head north on the Pacific Hwy from Heatherbrae/Raymond Terrace. Turn left at Italia Rd, toward Seaham. After approximately 4km turn right onto a forest road. Follow this road and orienteering signs for approximately 2.5km to a large clearing. Follow signs out of the north-western end of the clearing for another 2.5km to some parking in a small quarry. Others should park where possible beside the forest road. There is a clear area 400m east of the quarry.

Please Note: The forest road is a gravel but it is in reasonably good condition. Even so, you should still take it easy as there are potholes in certain parts. There is also a narrow bridge with 2.4 width clearance 500m before the assembly area. Parking is available just before the bridge if your vehicle is wider than this.
