Welcome to Newcastle Orienteering Club

Orienteering is a competitive or non-competitive recreational activity in which participants use a detailed map (and usually a compass) to navigate between checkpoints (known as “controls”) along an unfamiliar course. If you like a mental and physical challenge and exploring the outdoors, orienteering is the sport for you!

With Easter 3-Days looming this was one of the few bush events available to hone those navigational skills that have maybe been a little rested over the off season and this perhaps explains such an outstanding number of participants showing up.

The weather was a little unkind, not by raining, but by being considerably hotter than is preferable for a bush event and there were lots of sweaty bodies after their run.

A big thank you to Denis for setting challenging courses and placing the controls single handedly. This was a major task. Many thanks also to the control collectors on the day. I personally can attest how much mental effort it required to go back out in the middle of the day to pick up flag stands.

Good luck to all our members that head off the the ACT for either Easter of the extended carnival.
