Welcome to Newcastle Orienteering Club

Orienteering is a competitive or non-competitive recreational activity in which participants use a detailed map (and usually a compass) to navigate between checkpoints (known as “controls”) along an unfamiliar course. If you like a mental and physical challenge and exploring the outdoors, orienteering is the sport for you!

Event: Club Minor
Location: Cameron Park
Weather: Fine, mild
Planner: Stuart Kurtz
Vetting: Tony Hayes, Kelly Kurtz
Set up: Tony Hayes, Mick Kavur
Start: Kelly Kurtz
Finish: Tony Hayes, Denis Lyons
Collectors: Arthur Kingsland, Paul Griffiths, Mick Kavur, Denis Lyons, Tony Hayes
Pack up: Margaret Peel, Mick Kavur, Denis Lyons
Competitors: 70+

With so many members still away at the Easter week it was a pleasant surprise to still get over 70 competitors turn out for an event at Cameron Park. This ever decreasing area is still a fun and challenging place to stage an event and Stuart Kurtz utilised it terrifically.

This was only Stuart's second effort at setting, this time going solo with the exception of some vetting by Tony Hayes and Kelly Kurtz.

Personally I found the Long Red course to be interesting and I must admit although having competed here many times I never felt I knew the area at all and look forward to visiting this map again before it changes from a bush map into a street map.

Thanks to Start's helpers on the day as listed above.
