Membership

Although you are welcome to come and try orienteering at any event on the calendar, longer term involvement requires joining the Orienteering Association via your local club. To ensure you receive regular notification of coming events, social activities, training, results and general information of interest to orienteers you are invited to join the club of your choice. Details of NSW clubs can be found on the Orienteering NSW website.

The initial and most obvious benefits of joining a club are the reduced entry fees at events – both locally and across Australia.

Membership Types

Family, Senior and Junior memberships cover full OANSW membership, a subscription to the national magazine "The Australian Orienteer", OANSW newsletters and event programs and qualification for entry to State and National Championships.

Associate membership includes OANSW newsletters and event programs but not "The Australian Orienteer" or qualification for entry to State and National Championships. Associate Membership can apply to families or individuals.

Family: up to 2 seniors living at the same address and any juniors who look to either adult as a parent.

Senior: 21 years and over during the membership (calendar) year.

Junior: under 21 years during the membership (calendar) year.

But why join Newcastle Orienteering Club?

Newcastle is a vibrant club, and certainly the most active in NSW, providing a large number of Bush, Street, Park and MTBO events throughout the year.

Membership of Newcastle Club gives a member access to coaching and training activities here in the Hunter. This program has been recognised as a trailblazer in the State. Nurturing our emerging orienteers, of all ages and abilities, leads to enjoyment and a sense of satisfaction. But it has also contributed to Newcastle Orienteers being named as NSW Rookie of the Year in 4 out of the past 5 years!

If you'd like to be involved in the more technical side of the sport we've had sessions on mapping and there's lots of opportunities to learn from an expert in the various aspects of orienteering. Newcastle is moving towards upskilling in several areas and in 2013 there will be great opportunities to become involved in administration as well as the technical sides to the sport.

Newcastle Orienteering Club can truly boast the broadest spectrum of ages within the sport. Our young “crew” is growing in number as our older orienteers continue to enjoy the wide range of courses and events in a variety of terrain – within an hour's drive of the CBD.

Newcastle has been voted NSW Club of the Year several times for its activities, atmosphere and quality events. On the more competitive side, we've also had our name on the Inter-club Points Score trophy more than once.

So come along to a Newcastle event. We're not quite the biggest Club in NSW – but we think you'll like what you see.
